Air Seychelles has deepened its environmental commitment by officially adopting the Caiman Estate Wetland in Anse Boileau—marking a new chapter in the national airline’s journey toward a greener, more sustainable future. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment (MACCE) on Thursday, 17 April 2025, formalized this pledge. The agreement was signed on-site by Air Seychelles CEO Sandy Benoiton and Minister Flavien Joubert, underscoring a shared vision for climate resilience and ecological stewardship.

Through this partnership, Air Seychelles will take an active role in preserving and restoring the wetland, with staff participating in hands-on conservation efforts. More significantly, the airline endeavours to offset all carbon emissions generated by passengers flying on Air Seychelles flights—through the planting of mangroves at the site and other carbon sequestration projects across the archipelago. Mangroves, known for their exceptional capacity to capture and store carbon, lie at the heart of this initiative, symbolizing a grounded yet ambitious commitment to environmental responsibility.

The event brought together government officials, environmental advocates, and young citizens—the next generation of conservation leaders. Students from Anse Boileau Primary and Secondary Schools and the School for the Exceptional Child were present. Their participation reinforced the airline’s broader focus on education and community involvement.

Speaking at the event, CEO Sandy Benoiton stated:
“Today is more than a ceremony; it is a declaration of intent. By adopting this wetland, we are pledging real action—not only for the environment but for the people of Seychelles. This has been a long-held aspiration, and now, together with our partners and our community, we are putting it into practice. Our upcoming Carbon Emission Offsetting Program aligns perfectly with this effort. Beyond the ecological benefits, we see this as an opportunity to engage, to educate, and to inspire. Our goal is to keep this site thriving and use it as a platform for awareness, learning, and meaningful climate action.”

Also signed on the day, was the Wetland Conservation pledge, implemented by Nature Seychelles, whose aim is to improve Climate Adaptation and Environmental Governance through Local People and Co-Management in Seychelles.
